Wellness Connections

Wellness Connections is an outreach program aimed at increasing confidence, independence and reducing social isolation designed to support seniors 55 years and older who may face barriers to participate in traditional recreation programming.

This program provides transportation, educational and leisure programming, adaptive fitness classes and a nutritious lunch in a small, social group setting. To reduce possible language barriers, Wellness Connections is offered in Cantonese and Mandarin on Tuesdays and English on Thursdays.

Program Fee: $210 + tax (low income subsidy can be applied, payment planning available)

Benefits:

  • Learn valuable information about resources available to adults 55+

  • Confidence in attending a community recreational facility

  • Gain social skills within an intimate group setting

Eligibility:

  • Participants must be mobile or use a mobility aid, be able to independently navigate the centre, not be at-risk to wander and perform all activities on their own with minimal support.

  • Registration and an intake interview required.

Who can participate?

Wellness Connections participants are adults 55+ who may be frail, vulnerable and at risk for isolation. Those suitable for the program need more support to participate in traditional community centre programming and may be experiencing one or more of the following barriers:

  • Change in health status

  • Chronic conditions

  • Change in personal supports

  • Loss of a spouse or close caregiver

  • Cognitive changes

  • Depression and/or anxiety

  • Addictions

  • Difficulty accessing transportation

  • Lack of community support

Participants should be ready to make positive changes in their own lives, and are committed to attending all sessions.
